On this day in 1965, the Pete Brock Designed Cobra Daytona Coupe (chassis No. CSX 2601) was driven to victory at the 12 hours of Rheims by Bob Bondurant with Jo Schlesser as co-driver. This victory clinched the 1965 World Manufacturers Championship for Shelby American, to date Americas first and only World Manufactures title for GT cars.
Of the 133.2 points that the Cobra team achieved during the entire 1965 season, this car accounted for 60. Bob Bondurant, driving this Cobra and others, won 83.4 points compared to a total of 80.9 for all drivers and cars for Ferrari.
